The National Disaster Management Agency of Malaysia reported today that over 11,000 people in seven Malaysian states have been affected by floods caused by heavy rains. According to the agency's report, 11,009 people from 3,839 families were affected by the floods in the seven states. Sixty temporary shelters have been opened in the affected states to house those displaced by the floods. The hardest-hit was the northeastern state of Kelantan, which borders Thailand, where 8,228 people were affected. The agency also reported that in a separate incident yesterday, about 400 people were cut off due to a landslide caused by continuous rain in the village of Wangkelian in the northwestern state of Perlis. Floods spread along the east coast of Malaysia during the annual monsoon season from October to March, displacing thousands of people every year.
